One Size Does Not Fit All But Positive Intentions Always Work

What Is A Medium

When I am using the word medium on this site I am not in any way referring to the clothing size I wear. 😉 I am referring to a medium of which the definition is, a person who communicates with spirits or entities. This type of medium is certainly not measurable by any size chart, regardless of the country of origin. Also not measurable, is how one medium compares to another when it comes to communication styles, and abilities. This article speaks about different types of mediumship abilities and why a medium’s intentions are very important.

Medium’s Abilities – Natural Or Developed

There are many classes of mediums and many different types of mediumship abilities. Some mediums are natural using their gifts from childhood. Some natural mediums may be aware of their ability to make contact with the spirit world and some may not. Other mediums may develop their abilities later in life. These factors do not make one medium better than the other. What really matters when it comes to the quality of a medium is the intentions they hold in regards to their work.

What Is A Psychic & What Is A Medium

Before I discuss different types of mediums, I should probably explain the difference between a psychic and a medium.

The word Psychic comes from the Greek word psykhikos meaning of the soul, spirit, or mind. When we refer to a person as a psychic we are speaking of a person who can read the soul, spirit, or mind. A psychic uses their senses, which are referred to as extrasensory or psychic senses. To sum this up, psychics knows things about people or objects, as they can sense information off of them.

A Medium is a person who communicates with disincarnate entities. This includes people who have died and communicate from beyond the veil of life. This can also include other types of beings who are not in living physical form on the earth. A medium may use their psychic senses to obtain information with their process of communication. With this explained please understand that a medium is always psychic however a Psychic is not always a Medium.

Psychic Mediums – Clairvoyants

Psychic mediums use their psychic senses to obtain information. This class of medium is often referred to as a Clairvoyant Medium or a Psychic Medium. There are Mediums who work with spirits without them sensing information from spirits or entities they are in contact with.

Clairvoyant Ablities

The word “clairvoyant” means clear seeing. It is a psychic sense but it also an umbrella term used to describe a medium who uses their psychic abilities to receive information as a medium. The following is a brief description of clairvoyant or psychic faculties.

  • Clairvoyance – The medium perceives information through the extrasensory perception of sight.
  • Clairaudience – The medium perceives information through the extrasensory perception of sound, meaning they hear things.
  • Clairgustance – The medium perceives information through the extrasensory perception of taste.
  •  Clairolfactance – The medium perceives information through the extrasensory perception of  smell.
  • Psychometry  – The medium perceives information through the extrasensory perception of touch. The receive information by touching a person or an object.
  • Clairsentience – The medium perceives information through the extrasensory perception of feeling things. The pick of feelings off of people and things.
  • Claircognizance – The medium perceives information as they have and ability to acquire psychic knowledge by means of intrinsic knowledge. Meaning the medium just knows information.

There are other classes of mediums other than clairvoyant mediums.

Trance Mediums

Trance Mediums work differently than clairvoyant mediums. With Trance Mediums, an outside force assumes control of the medium’s body during communication. Most trance mediums have their ability occur naturally, after much experience of working with their spirit helpers. This provides a level of safety and trust is imperative for any trance medium. There are different forms of what is referred to as trance mediumship.

A Full Trance Medium allows a spirit to totally take control of their body. Often they remember nothing which had transpired during the session. This type of mediumship is rare and for good reason. A Channeler Medium allows a spirit to use their voice box to speak through them. An Automatic Writing Medium allows a spirit to produce writing through them. The type of Spirit Portrait Drawings which this writer works with is a form of this type of mediumship. For information see my Readings Page on this site.

All forms of Trance Mediumship have risks involved as the medium is allowing a direct connection with the medium’s body by a spirit. This is no matter to be taken lightly. This is because, if a medium is not well trained and does not have a strong connection with their spirit helpers, they run a very serious risk of having an undesirable spirit attached to their body. This can not only drain and individual of vital energy but, also cause a myriad of undesirable effects.

Physical Mediums

Physical Mediumship involves energy provided by a medium is  used by spirits to produce the physical phenomena. This type of mediumship may produce noises, cause objects to move, objects to materialize,  and allow spirits to materialize in partial or full view of others. In this case, the medium is used as a source of power for the spirit to produce the phenomena. This type of mediumship is uncommon now days and was more common around the early 1900s.

Intention Is Everything When It Come To A Medium

This article speaks about different types of mediumship abilities and why a medium’s intentions are very important. As I mentioned earlier, regardless of the the type medium, the thing which makes a quality medium is their intentions. Of course time, training, and experience, all come in to play when developing mediumship, but it is the medium’s intention which is so very important. This is as in life, birds of a feather flock together, meaning the kind of person we are is the kind of people we attract around us. This is no different when it comes to the spirits.

Ego With Mediumship

Any good medium is careful about their intentions regarding the work they do. They understand that the intentions they hold around the work can directly affect it’s quality.

With mediumship it is easy to for individuals to get tied up with the idea, that one is special due to their abilities. Nothing could be further from the truth. Every human being has natural mediumship abilities which may be chosen to be developed. So being a medium is nothing special, it just is what it is. Not every medium who does this is arrogant. At times this can occur do to low self-esteem. Regardless of the reason, this be an ego trap.

Trained mediums understand how ego can affect them and thus constantly work to keep their ego’s in check. They are aware of how an inflated ego can attract lower energy spirits.

Money & Mediumship

There are individuals who choose to be involved with mediumship strictly for the purpose of making money. This is a problem which is not new, it has been around since the beginning of the Modern Spiritualist Movement. It is a factor which has caused many fraudulent individuals to give mediums a bad name.

Now please do not misunderstand me as I am not saying that a medium should not charge for their services. As with any service provider, a good medium has invested time, money and training, so they can do what it is they do to the best of their ability. Like any service provider, a medium has full right to charge for their work and time. What I am saying is that issues arise, when a mediums work becomes all about the making of money. This is no different from any other service provider in any other field.

Positive Intentions Invite Positive Connections

As explained earlier, the type of person we strive to be leads to the type of spirits we attract to us. With this being said, if one is driven by ego and focused mostly on making money, then these are the types of spirits they will invite. Sooner or later this certainly lead to a medium either having inaccurate information being brought forward, or a medium acting fraudulently.

In this article I have spoken about different types of mediumship abilities and why a medium’s intentions are very important. Every type of medium is not listed here but I feel you can see the degrees of variety.  For sure not all mediums come in the same sizes and packaging. Our skills are more varied than I know I can even imagine. It is certain that one size does not fit all but, quality always comes as a result of true positive intentions towards our fellow man.

As always it is an honor and a pleasure to share!
